Inflammation of the spinal joints can cause stiffness and pain. Over time, the vertebrae can fuse, decreasing flexibility and resulting in a loss of mobility in the spine. These malformations can have a domino effect on other areas of the body and can cause pain and stiffness in the shoulders, hips, and ribs. Small joints in the hands and feet, as well as the heel can also be affected, in addition to inflammation of the eyes. Pain is commonly described as dull aching and is worse in the morning or after prolonged immobility.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #f8585a;\"><b>Who Suffers From\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #f8585a;\"><b>Ankylosing Spondylitis<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #f8585a;\"><b>?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most people think that AS is more common in men than women, but recent data has shown AS occurs equally in both. Symptoms usually begin in teens to early adulthood but can be diagnosed at any time.
